Heckscher has made catalytic impact on the issue of College Transfer Credits within the City University of New York (CUNY) system, as outlined in this new study by Ithaka S+R on the impact and outcomes of the Articulation of Credit Transfer (ACT) project. The project tracks how many transfer credits count toward a student’s degree program and accesses information that allows three important actions: aggregate-level analyses of student transfer outcomes, course-level analyses, and real-time monitoring of transfer students’ fallthrough courses. All of these actions are critical to help inform CUNY policy and practices related to transfer. The real-time monitoring of credit transfer from partnering community colleges to senior colleges, in particular, has already improved advisors’ ability to support students’ course choices to avoid creating fallthrough courses – courses that do not fulfill the general education, major, minor, or total-credits degree requirements for their chosen program.
