Jeremiah Program is a national organization with a mission to disrupt the cycle of poverty for single mothers and their children, two generations at a time. We made a catalytic investment to pilot a new campus-based model for single mothers attending two Brooklyn-based CUNY colleges, Medgar Evers and Kingsborough Community College in order to promote the replication to other CUNY campuses.
Student parents represent more than one in five college students nationally. Only 8% of single mothers complete a college degree within six years of enrolling and only 2% of teen mothers earn a college degree before age 30. Jeremiah Program reaches this vulnerable population through a two-generation model of supporting single mothers to access and succeed in college as well as providing their children with the resources they need to be successful in their own educational trajectories.
