We were an initial funder of a strategic partnership between foundations and a technology company which led to the development of the College Admissions Cognitive Advisor, an innovative, web-based tool that was designed to provide guidance and information for tens of thousands of high-achieving, low-income, college-qualified students who do not have adequate tools and advisement to guide them through the college admissions process. The project brought together a prominent technology partner, the leading provider of information to college-bound students (College Board), and a small group of other foundations including the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, ECMC Foundation, Carnegie Foundation and Marie Josée and Henry R. Kravis Foundation. This collaborative approach was designed to make the Advisor the “go-to” website for college research, application, funding, and preparation. The collaboration produced a workable prototype which was ultimately turned over to the College Board for its use in connection with its data tool, Big Future.
