Approach

Navigate the Maze to Achievement

New York City’s most selective public high schools rank among the highest-performing in the country and guide students into top-tier colleges, and long-term success and stability. However, historically marginalized communities lack access to these schools. Black and Latino students make up 66% of public high schools, but less than 11% of students in specialized high schools.

We identified Navigate the Maze to Achievement (NTMA) in our efforts to assist underserved gifted and talented students. NTMA prepares talented and highly motivated Black and Latino students for the NYC specialized and selective high school admissions process and supports the students academically and socially in applying to and while in high school. Our 2022 grant seeks to increase and sustain NTMA’s footprint in NYC.
