Approach

New Heights Youth

New Heights Youth provides year-round academic and basketball programming for underserved New York City youth through after-school and summer programs. Its core program, College Bound, offers comprehensive upper elementary, middle, and high school educational programming and support services including leadership development, academic support, high school and college placement assistance, summer academy and college completion services. New Heights has a 98% college matriculation rate and a 75% college completion rate. After years of New Heights’ search for the right location to physically unite and scale up its athletic and academic programming, Heckscher made a catalytic grant to spearhead New Heights’ move to the Bedford Union Armory in Brooklyn by anchoring its capital campaign as the first major foundation funder. Situated in Crown Heights near several subway lines, and featuring three full-sized basketball courts alongside administrative offices, classrooms, and computer labs, the Armory is taking New Heights to the next level. The opening of New Heights’ new home has enabled the organization to serve over 1,000 youth through new community-based initiative, extending the catalytic impact of our grant to reach thousands of local children and families.

We are proud to partner with the Heckscher Foundation. They have had a game changing impact on our organization and the youth and families across NYC that we serve. The Foundation’s commitment of time and resources has strengthened our academic and athletic programming, built our organizational capacity and positioned us to take on tremendous growth in our new home.
