Genesee Community College (GCC) has created a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) certification training program to meet the growing demand for skilled CNC operators and programmers in upstate New York. CNC professionals use computer-controlled machines to manufacture precise parts essential to industries such as semiconductor production. Genesee outfitted a hands-on training lab with the machinery that youth will use in the workplace to better prepare students for these jobs and worked with local BOCES schools to train high school seniors, giving them an opportunity to graduate high school with an industry-recognized certification as well as job opportunity. In the inaugural cohort, 96% of participants earned their certification and 80% were employed with full-time jobs upon completion of the training.
