Teacher Accelerator Program

We funded the planning and implementation of the Teacher Accelerator Program (TAP) which teams up with the largest educational institutions in Miami, Florida (including University of Miami, Miami Dade College and Achieve Miami) to address a major educational issue affecting students – the teacher shortage. TAP trains non-education majors to become teachers, guides the students through the Florida teacher certification process, and places them in teaching jobs. It is a classic example of large institutes strategically working together to affect change. Our catalytic funding (in partnership with the Helios Education Foundation) led to millions of dollars of funding from many other funders, including Griffin Catalyst. In just its pilot year, 67% of graduates from the program were placed in teaching jobs.

In just three years, the program became the second-largest provider of teachers to Miami-Dade County Public Schools. See this article for more details.
